It gives us great pleasure to welcome back our Canadian cult hero B.A Johnston on Friday 15th November, with support from the fantastic HENS BENS!
A song and dance like no other, BA performs songs about beer, Nintendo and shitty cats. The important stuff in life. HENS BENS make pop music in BLOCK CAPITALS and are not interested in being like other bands. All power to them.
“His music and performances continue to prove that good, memorable music doesn’t have to be expensive, complicated, or even subversive. It just needs to connect with the people who need it” – Trent Arthur on B.A. Johnston
BA Johnston has been playing music in his Canada, pretty much since the dawn of time. He is best known for his hit song ‘Deep Fryer in my Bedroom’ and for once having crashed a snowmobile into the Canadian Prime Minister’s pool. He can usually be found in Canada playing in some crappy bar for a nominal cover charge but has decided to branch out and play crappy bars in other countries. So get ready for a non refundable night of entertainment that has been described by Canadian media as ‘not for everyone’.
HENS BENS don’t write songs about the same things as other bands. ARGUING WITH THE GUY FROM SLEAFORD MODS ON SOCIAL MEDIA is about arguing with the guy from Sleaford Mods on social media. FUCK OFF PHILIP is about a dispute with a small business owner. WEIRD A.I. YANKOVIC is about technological solutions to dickheads on the internet. PLEASE CAN HENS BENS SUPPORT DEVO was released as part of an unsolicited campaign to get on the bill for DEVO’s 2023 UK tour. It didn’t work.
Their shows aren’t like those by other bands. They incorporate fresh fruit, balloons and power tools. HENS BENS do not speak between songs, with the band instead relying on AI-generated crowd banter over which they have no control. There are LEDs attached to things. There are costume changes. The shows are a combination of loud noises and rainbow nonsense.
