14th April 2023 7:30 pm - 11:30 pm Ramsgate Music Hall - CT11 8NJ

We’re delighted to bring one of the most unique and entertaining one-man-bands to Ramsgate on Friday 14th April!

ICHI‘s music is a combination of childlike wonder, a wacky sense of humour and seemingly boundless creativity. All performed with absurdly brilliant homemade instruments. No words can truly do it justice – seeing is believing…

“ICHI fits nicely in the time-honored tradition of zany Japanese music from artists as diverse and eclectic as Cornelius, Lullatone and Kahimi Karie… he creates his own strange and wonderful world of sound and fun” Folk Radio

ICHI, from Nagoya in Japan, takes the notion of a one-man band to new limits, combining his quirky handmade instrument inventions (Stilt-bass, Kalilaphone, Balloon-pipes, Hatbox-pedal-drum, Tapumpet, Percussion-shoes & Hat-trick-hat) with steel-drum, ping-pong balls, toys & everyday objects all in the space of one short set. Having toured as a solo artist in Japan, the UK and Europe, playing at festivals including Greenman, End of the Road, Boomtown, In The Woods, Great Escape, Camp Bestival and Glastonbury.

ICHI has been making waves and it’s unsurprising he is championed by the likes of David Byrne (Talking Heads)BBC 6‘s Steve LamacqGideon CoeTom Ravenscroft & Lauren Laverne, and Deerhoof who invited him to play with them in New York at their event The Wordless Music Series.

“A breath of fresh air in the often insular world of experimental music” Folk Radio

“ICHI uses semi-recognisable threads of punk, reggae and folk rhythms to help drive you through his madcap laboratory of found instruments, Japanese times tables and surreal, multi-lingual lyrics” The Skinny
