It’s with great honour that we welcome back the wonderful Jesca Hoop on Friday 19th January!

A stunning songwriter and sensational singer, Hoop remains one of the most treasured artists in the world of folk. Her last studio album, produced by John Parish, was arguably her best yet, receiving huge acclaim…

“A stunning meditation on identity… moments of melodrama are conveyed with remarkable poise and elegance” The Line of Best Fit (9/10 Review)

California-born but now based in Manchester, UK, Jesca Hoop is what you’d call a musician’s musician. Discovered by Tom Waits, and brought on tour by Peter Gabriel to sing in his band, it was a phone call from Elbow’s Guy Garvey that saw her move to the UK.

Hoop’s 6 studio albums including her most recent album ‘Order of Romance’,  produced by John Parish (PJ Harvey, Aldous Harding, This is the Kit), all received huge acclaim from critics and fans alike, and it’s easy to see why: Jesca Hoop is one of our most captivating singers. Her beautiful songs, rooted in the folk tradition are intricately detailed, acoustic-led pieces that teem with ideas, expertly crafted lyrics and melodies that spring from a deeply curious imagination..

“Poised and spacious, warm and inclusive, and highly provoked, Stonechild is another memorable addition to Hoop’s discography”All Music

“Hoop complicates centuries of feminized folk music by singing about the ugly, violent aspects of motherhood. Stillbirth, spousal abuse, sexism inherited from mother to daughter—all claim vignettes on this record of electro-folk, seeking, much like Love did, to render motherhood in fucking intense terms”Pitchfork

“An exercise in top-level songwriting, stately and intelligent”DIY
