It’s been a while!

We’re so excited to welcome back the one and only Sweet Baboo on February 23rd. A real RMH favourite who has put out wonderful work on Moshi Moshi, with a new record due early next year!

“Beautifully judged (electronic) psych-pop that hums with warmth”UNCUT

Sweet Baboo is the alter ego of North Walian musician and songwriter Stephen Black. His career has spanned over 2 decades and has seen him release 6 albums to date to critical acclaim. He is currently putting the finishing touches to a new record, his first in over 5 years which will be released in early 2023.

Sweet Baboo has not performed live since End of The Road Festival 2018 but that’s not to say Black hasn’t been busy. Most recently in Jan 2022 releasing and touring his second album as Group Listening entitled ‘Clarinet & Piano: Selected Works Vol 2.’ with pianist Paul Jones.

Black’s interaction with music was forged largely through his elder brothers, who introduced him to artists such as the Beatles and Guns N’ Roses. He’s been hooked on music and writing songs ever since. He joined rock/pop outfit JT Mouse before he decided to go it alone and began writing his own brand of psychedelic-laced country-folk music. He explored his diverse pop influences, such as the Beach Boys, the MonkeesWeezer, and Neutral Milk Hotel, while putting his own songs together; he requested a four-track recorder one Christmas to craft his own melodies.

“With a blend of humility and affection, Stephen Black is a honey-voiced man with a goal of becoming the Harry Nilsson of Snowdonia”The Times

“A markedly ethereal romp beyond the traditional boundaries of pop, as its comic hints of electronica and rolling melodies lend it a profoundly cosmic air”The Skinny
