Duke Garwood is a London-based multi-instrumentalist and recording artist whose expertise on a wide range of instruments has graced numerous albums by an eclectic range of musicians. While Garwood’s own music is rooted in the blues, generating a dark and spectral sound full of late-night atmosphere on albums like 2009’s ‘The Sand That Falls’ and 2014’s ‘Heavy Love’, working with other artists he’s dipped his toes into everything from soul horns to moody electronics, and he’s frequently collaborated with vocalist Mark Lanegan.
Duke Garwood returns with a magical new album, Rogues Gospel, out on 25 November 2022 via God Unknown Records. Recorded in the summer of 2020 whilst the world was in flux, the album is drenched with a feeling of freedom as Garwood and drummer Paul May sheltered from the world outside. It was, Garwood explains, “a heat soaked fever dream of our soul nectar in sonic form”. Recalling the past, gathering the elements from the present, the two artists – whose knowledge of one another’s playing is apparent throughout – work together with exquisite tones and percussive detail in this intimate recording.
