A special homecoming show!
Post-metal, pop sludgers OHHMS played their first ever show at Ramsgate Music Hall. They are now in their 5th year as a band and their 5th year as recording artists for Holy Roar Records.
This performance will see them at the end of their ‘Exist’ album touring cycle & has the band returning to their hometown for the first time in 4 years!
“Steamrolling noise rock riffs that immediately flatten you” – KERRANG
As the world shifts, the parameters of political music have expanded. Bands such as Svalbard and FEVER 333 have found new ways to channel protest into thrilling sounds. Nobody other than OHHMS, however, has made a seven-act prog-metal track written from the point of view of a laboratory animal.
Said epic is ‘Subjects’, the opening track on their second album from the Canterbury experimentalists back in 2018. Laying claim to over half of the record’s running time, it explores twists and turns you wouldn’t expect when its avant-doom intro first leads into a swinging, almost Orange Goblin-esque groove. Drop in anywhere during its 23-minute duration and you’ll find something inspiring. It’s enormous, but it never feels like a clumsy medley of unconnected snippets, flowing organically even when its most blissful point is followed by a squeal of feedback and a wall of fuzz.
“Fuelled by righteous indignation and born of a love of Swans and bands of their ilk, plus a desire to espouse existential outrage their ability to engage throughout such long compositions hints at a brighter future than they predict for the rest of mankind” – Metal Hammer
“Heavy. Huge. Obey the riff” –Daniel P Carter (Radio 1 Rock Show)
“Deranged vocals, extended instrumental passages and bursts of brutal, bludgeoning noise, OHHMS are a carefully crafted combination of ambience and aggression and a treat for fans of the experimental and unconventional” – Rock Sound
