Mother Brain #4 – Psychic Graveyard

We’re stoked to bring one of the most masterful noise rock outfits from the States to Ramsgate Music Hall on 17th May! Psychic Graveyard are known for their punishing industrial hailstorms, having opened up for METZ in the UK and released a split LP with our Mother Brain faves USA Nails

Support comes from the drumming extraordinare Adam Betts AKA Colossal Squid!

“It makes sense that the nutjobs behind such a work of deranged genius would come from bands including Arab on Radar, Doomsday Student and Some Girls” Revolver

Noise Rock pioneers, Eric Paul (Arab On Radar, Chinese Stars, Doomsday Student), Paul Vieira (Chinese Stars, Doomsday Student), Nathan Joyner (Some Girls, All Leather, Hot Nerds), Charles Ovett (Battle Beasts, Joules) venture through uncharted territory with Psychic Graveyard. Nathan Joyner’s grinding synths and ‘found sound’ buries the seed of each song deep into the fertile ground – while Paul Vieira’s manic, fuzzed-out guitars, Ovett’s bombastic drumming, and Eric Paul’s obsessive lyrics shower the proceedings with equal parts sunshine and rain.

The band has released three albums, Loud As Laughter (Skin Graft), A Bluebird Vacation (Deathbomb Arc), Veins Feel StangeDeathbomb Arc), a split LP with U.S.Nails (Skin Graft/Box Records) and two EPs, The Next World (Skin Graft) + Mouths (Deathbomb Arc). According to the band, the process of writing is unusual for them. San Diego-based Joyner sends files filled with the skeletons of songs to Vieira and Paul in Providence, Rhode Island, and Ovett in Charlotte, NC. The three members add their parts, and then the songs undergo an arduous, back and forth until all of the members agree on the final version. The distance of the members and the anomalous approach to writing resulted in a diverse, yet coherent recordings, that pick up and drop off the listener at dramatically different places. Like nerve endings spliced and sewn back together, the process spawned a whole new auditory system – which serves as the infrastructure for Psychic Graveyard.
