Glen Matlock and his band travel to Ramsgate on Saturday 1st March, supported by Kathy Valentine of The Go Go’s!
Glen Matlock was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as an original member of the Sex Pistols, but with a distinctive blend of talent and style, his remarkable versatility across various genres extends his influence well beyond his punk rock roots.
Matlock’s collaborations are extensive. In addition to bass guitar duty on several Sex Pistols reunion tours, he has played with Debbie Harry, Iggy Pop, Ronnie Wood, Mick Ronson, Mick Jones, Mick Hucknall, Dave Vanian, Gary Kemp, Slim Jim Phantom, and Kathy Valentine, to name but a few. His enduring partnership with Clem Burke has recently yielded some special moments, including ongoing touring with Blondie, which also led to their appearance on the Pyramid Stage at the 2023 Glastonbury Festival.
Penning the punk rock anthem Pretty Vacant, Glen wrote the music to all the Pistols‘ classics, including Anarchy in the UK and God Save the Queen. He also wrote or co-wrote Iggy Pop‘s Ambition and Mr. Dynamite; Rich Kids‘ Strange One and Hung on You; and his own Something for Nothing, My Little Philistine, Wanderlust, Magic Carpet Ride, and numerous others. His further contributions include the formation of bands like the Rich Kids, Glen Matlock and the Philistines, the Spectres, Dead Men Walking, the International Swingers, and the Maestros.
These days his persona may be that of a stylish rock gent and even a book publisher, but illustrating his unwavering dedication and ongoing impact on contemporary rock music currents, Glen Matlock is very much a highly active music professional with regular solo albums (including his latest, ‘Consequences Coming’), frequent collaborations with other artists, and extensive tours that take him to faraway Australia, Brazil, and California.
Matlock’s charismatic presence and stylish swagger will be accompanied on the Ramsgate stage by a full band of his wonderful long-time mates and collaborators: Neal X (Sigue Sigue Sputnik), Jim Lowe, and Chris Musto, transforming this intimate club experience into a truly immersive rock and roll show and a great Saturday night out on the town.
Kathy Valentine has been a working musician and songwriter ever since she started her first band at age 16 in her hometown of Austin, Texas. After moving to Los Angeles, Kathy joined a band that would go on to make music history: The Go-Go’s—the most successful all-female band of all time (according to the US Billboard charts)—an irreverent and combustible new wave five-piece formed in the crucible of the LA punk scene that went to No. 1 in the US in 1982 with their debut album, Beauty and the Beat. Kathy wrote or co-wrote some of the band’s most renowned tunes, including the hits Vacation and Head Over Heels. Rocked and reloaded, the Go-Go’s will also be performing at the famed Coachella Festival in April.
